Lady Knights are on a roll

On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Central Penn women’s soccer team played an away game against Patrick Henry College. That was the beginning of the Lady Knights' streak, with an 8-0 win. Wislene Verna scored five goals, while Angie Kovac had an assist to captain Natalie Richards for a goal. Richards also had a total of seven assists. In the second half, Ally Kennedy had a nice corner shot on goal. Captain and goalkeeper Kim Leitzel produced a shutout. Everyone on and off the field played their role and did a great job executing.

The Central Penn women’s team also faced Trinity Washington University on Wednesday Sept. 13 at their home field. The confidence from the last game carried over and the Knights took the win with a final score of 5-1.

Starting off the game, Wislene Verna used her speed and dribbled past Trinity’s back defense and took a wide open shot on goal, but their goalie saved it. From the goal kick, in the first 45 seconds of the game, captain Natalie Richards scored the first point of the game. Verna scored the next goal at the nine-minute mark with an assist by Richards. Again, Richards scored off a great pass from Angie Kovac.

Hannah Mason did a great job playing midfield and pressuring the other team with some good attempts on goal. Halfway through the first half Richards had a through ball to Verna with a nice shot in the left corner. Kim Leitzel held her ground and only allowed one shot on goal. The score was 4-1 at the half.

The Lady Knights knew they have to come out even stronger after the half and not let their guard down knowing that Trinity, being down three points, was going to come out hungry for the ball. Trinity Washington was determined to make a comeback and did a great job putting pressure on Central Penn. The Lady Knights fought till the end and kept the ball out of the net.

At the eight-minute mark in the second half, Jenna Compton gets past Trinity's midfield and made a great pass to Verna, who took another shot on goal. Good luck to the Lady Knights soccer team, as they will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 5 at Clarks Summit.
