Wislene Verna has been named the female Athlete of the Month for September.
“She has become a leader on the team and does her best to lead by example," says women's Coach Ubaldo Murillo, who nominated her. "Our younger players look up to her and respect her hard work.”
In the last two games, Verna has scored six goals, while also registering an assist. Murillo had nothing but positive comments to say about Verna, stating “she juggles a job, studies and is a starting player on the women’s team. She never complains and gives everything she has every game.”
“I always work hard on the field, and I try my best no matter what the circumstances are," stated Verna. "I know that in order to be my best, I need to work my hardest and that is what I try to do every day.”
Verna is a criminal justice major, entering her sophomore year of college. She attended West Shore Christian Academy in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Taylor Martin was named as the male Athlete of the Month for September.
A sophomore, Martin is a physical therapist assistant major, with a 3.2 GPA.
“I like to prioritize my time and make use of it for my studies, so I can focus on soccer when it is time to play,” stated Martin.
“Taylor Martin is my top player in all areas; two goals, in two games; very focused on his studies; and never, ever strays from the values of our team,” said men's Coach Doug Fisher, who nominated Martin.
Martin attended Cocalico High School, in Denver, Pa. In his free time, he likes to hangout with his friends around campus.
