Central Penn Women’s Soccer Team Notches Second Road Win
The Central Penn women’s team travelled to Manor College for an afternoon contest on September 18th. Playing numbers down for the whole match, the visitors were able to prevail winning the game 4-1.
ANia Lalic opened the scoring by hitting a perfectly placed direct free kick to give Central Penn an early lead. The home team was able to tie the score late in the first half scoring on their own free kick just outside the penalty area. The score was knotted at 1-1 at halftime.
Kayli Davis was able to give the visitor’s the lead by scoring her third goal of the season. Abby Roberts’ initial shot was stopped by the Manor keeper, but Kayli followed the shot and put in the rebound to give Central Penn the lead.
Manor was putting on pressure in effort to tie the score when backup keeper, Lindsay Childs, made a spectacular diving save to preserve the visitor’s one goal lead. Lindsay had eight saves in the match.
Later in the half, after making a long run out of the midfield, Honestee Coldsmith was able to score to give Central Penn a little bit of a cushion as Manor continued to press to tie the game.
ANia Lalic earned a brace by scoring her second goal of the match. ANia was able to find a gap to run forward with the ball beating several defenders and the keeper to seal the win.
Coach Grubesky explained, “I was concerned when Manor scored with two seconds left in the first half because that could have been demoralizing after the girls worked so hard playing numbers down. However, our mood was good during halftime, the girls bounced back, and were determined to win the game.”
Goalkeeper Coach Alison Quinn added, “I thought Lindsay’s save earned her player of the match because it was made at such a critical time for us.”
Manor College will be our opponent on Tuesday, October 14th at the Skyline Sports Complex and it will be the team’s Pink Out to raise awareness of breast cancer and hopefully raise monies for cancer research.
