Central Penn College Lady Knights volleyball team wins three in a row

As the 2013 USCAA volleyball national tournament selection bids draw closer, the Central Penn College Lady Knights are making a run for a bid. Wednesday night, the Lady Knights won their third consecutive game in three consecutive nights, running their season record to 8-9. Three big games remain this season.

Central Penn began the week with a 3-0 win against Penn State Schuylkill. Seniors Brandi Kinard and Marissa Monteiro proved to be too much for the Lady Lions to handle. Kinard led the Lady Knights with 13 kills and 12 aces. Monteiro added 3 kills, 4 aces, and 2 blocks in the victory.

On Tuesday, the Lady Knights took on NCAA D3 opponent Valley Forge Christian College. Central Penn jumped out early and never looked back by taking all three matches (25-22, 25-20, 25-18). Senior Shelbi Kinard came up big leading the team with 13 digs and 6 kills. The offensive attack was aided by the efforts of freshman Abria Allen-Williams (15 assists and 2 blocks) and senior Brandi Kinard (17 kills, 6 aces and 7 digs).

The Lady Knights played their third game in a row Wednesday evening in their home game finale against Valley Forge Military College. Led by their five seniors, Central Penn overcame a slow start to win the first match 25-20. The Lady Knights took control of play during the second match and easily won the final two matches (25-7 and 25-17). Once again, Central Penn was led by the duo of senior Brandi Kinard (17 kills) and freshman Abria Allen-Williams (16 assists). Senior Janine Haberstroh added 3 kills and fellow senior Rebekah Brown's defensive play helped guide the Lady Knights to an easy victory. Stats from the Valley Forge Military College match.

Central Penn travels to Pittsburgh on Saturday to take on ninth-ranked Carlow University. A victory against a top 10 team could help the Lady Knights' chances of receiving a national tournament bid. Central Penn ends the season with matches against Davis College and NCAA D3 opponent Albright College.
